Day Two - Dallas Trip
Published On: Dec 15, 2006
A Breakfast Buzz
Start off with a stealthy breakfast at Buzzbrews. Aside from a variety of egg dishes, this very chill 24-hour diner/coffee house also offers burger and salads. If you're feeling lethargic, try one of their rejuvenating espressos.
Parks & Museums
After eats, go for a stroll or steady jog along the Katy Trail and see the sights. Then get ready for a dollop of history at Fair Park - built in 1936 to recognize Texas' centennial. Fair Park also boasts a variety of museums including the Dallas Museums of Natural History, Science Place, the Steam Railroad Museum, along with a number of art-deco buildings.
For lunch, venture downtown for some tasty ribs, scrumptious sausage or tender beef briquettes at Sammy's Barbeque. This place is the epitome of Dallas-style barbeque - smoky. Or if you're searching for something a bit more extravagant, then head to Salum for some Italian/Mediterranean cuisine.
Dallas Zoo
Next on the agenda is the Dallas Zoo. Welcoming you at the entranceway is 67-1/2 foot giraffe statue. On the inside are rare and endangered tigers from Indochina, gorillas, chimps and animals from the African wilderness. One of the best features is the monorail that encircles the six different animal habitats throughout the park.
Southfork Ranch
If you'd rather see a pivotal slice of television history, the Southfork Ranch is where the Ewings lived on the classic show "Dallas". A tour takes you around the ranch where you even get to see the pistol that solved the baffling mystery of "Who shot J.R?"
For dinner, try one of Dallas' best restaurants - the extravagant York Street. If you're here with your sweetheart, it's the perfect romantic outing. Also delectable is Abacus. On the menu are varietal offerings of Cajun, Creole, Southwestern, Pacific Rim and even a sushi bar.
